10 Reasons to Consider a Smoothie for Breakfast

The summer is here.  It is getting hotter each day.  It’s time to change your morning breakfast picks.  Below are 10 reasons I have switched my breakfast to a smoothie.  I hope this inspires you to do the same-

  • They’re Quick

Mornings need a quick boost of nutrition to get you up and going and out the door without a lot of thinking or preparation.  smoothies deliver!

  • They’re Cool

A cooling addition to your mornings- great for those hot, humid and sticky days.

  • They’re Light and Airy

Easy to digest.  Easy to get down.  A perfect choice for those non-breakfast lovers who still need their nutrition or those who have difficulty digesting their foods.  Smoothies won’t leave you                       uncomfortable or bloated.

  • Dessert for Breakfast

I feel like a kid again-cheating by eating chocolate for breakfast!(one of my childhood fantasies-to be able to eat dessert whenever I chose.)  This way I get the flavor but with great nutrition!

  • Load up on veggies without the taste

Non-veIMG_0042ggie lovers rejoice!  The secret is to add chocolate protein powder or cocao powder to cover the flavor of the greens.  It really works!

  • Nutrient-packed yumminess

Superfoods galore for energy, healing and a little bit of love for your body to start your day off right.  You can pack a lot into 16 oz.

  • They’re Versatile

Change the ingredients you add to your smoothie to provide variety to each day, suit your moods and use up what foods you have in your frig. Smoothies are an easy way to add the nutrients you need most to help speed your healing for those who have a specific health condition and need an extra boost.

  • They will fill you up

Just because they are liquid, don’t think they won’t curb your appetite.  All the fiber from the fruits and veggies and the superfoods will ensure lasting relief until lunch.  (I used to be a non-believer to until I tried them.)

  • Extra Hydration

We all need to drink more water, but it’s hard to do.  Smoothies give you all the hydration you need through water, milk, fruits and veggies to get you started toward your daily 8 cups!  Your skin will thank  you!

  • Eat less, weigh less

Increasing your intake of fruits and vegetables, fiber and water will always allow your body to function better, process the digestion of your food easier and decrease the hard to digest carbohydrates and sugars most people rely on at breakfast.  Making this small change will ultimately lead to weigh loss.

This is my go- to breakfast I'm loving now and when I'm having a craving for chocolate or sweets at night after dinner. It feels like a bowl of ice cream without the guilt and stomach achiness afterwards. I add or delete ingredients to suit what I have on hand or want to eat at that moment.
Recipe type: Breakfast or snack
Serves: 1 serving
  • ⅓ C ice cubes
  • ½ C frozen unsweetened strawberries
  • 1 C fresh, chopped spinach
  • ½ C fresh, chopped kale
  • 1 TBSP chocolate protein powder
  • 1 C unsweetened almond, coconut or rice milk
  • ¼ tsp vanilla extract (optional)
  • 1 tsp soaked chia seeds and goji berries
  • 1 tsp ground flaxseed (optional)
  1. Place all ingredients into a blender.
  2. Start on low speed of blender and chop the ice.
  3. Gradually adjust speed from low to high.
  4. Blend until smoothie is thick and creamy and all ingredients are blended well.
  5. Sprinkle with ground flaxseed, if desired.
